SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,LAW AND SOCIAL CONFLICTS”, (April 25, 2025)

The international scientific conference “Law and Social Conflicts” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 25 April 2025. The Conference, organized in a hybrid format, was attended by over 100 domestic and foreign experts in various fields of law from Poland, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
The Conference was opened by a welcoming address of the Acting Dean, Prof. dr. Aleksandar Đorđević. Then, the Conference participants were addressed by Prof. dr. Tadija Đukić, Vice-Rector for Finance at the University of Niš.
The opening addresses were followed by a plenary session, in which Prof. dr. Vesna Knežević Predić presented her work on the Faculty premises while Prof. dr. Goran Marković, from the Faculty of Law of the University of East Sarajevo, Republika Srpska (B&H), presented his work via video link. Subsequently, the Conference activities continued in seven parallel sessions: Constitutional and Administrative Law; Civil Law; Criminal Law; Economic, Financial and Commercial Law; Labor and Social Law; International Law; and Legal Theory and History.
In their papers and presentations, the participants sought to highlight the main dilemmas, challenges, and open questions in legal theory and practice, particularly those related to law and social conflicts. The submitted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings.

SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,LEGAL PRINCIPLES IN CONTEMPORARY LAW”, (April 19, 2024)

The international scientific conference “Legal Principles in Contemporary Law” was held at the Faculty of Law in Niš, on 19 April 2024. The Conference, organized in a hybrid format, brought together over 100 domestic and foreign experts in various fields of law from Poland, Georgia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
The international scientific conference was opened by a welcoming address by the Dean, Prof. dr. Nebojša Raičević. Then, the Conference participants were addressed by Prof. dr. Jovan Stepanović, Vice-Rector of Scientific Research and Publishing at the University of Niš.
The opening addresses were followed by a plenary session, in which Prof. dr. Cristian Dumitru Miheș from the Faculty of Law, University of Oradea (Romania), and Prof. dr. Mariam Jikija from the Technical University of Tbilisi (Georgia) presented their papers via video link. Subsequently, the Conference activities continued in seven parallel sessions: Constitutional and Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Economic, Financial, and Commercial Law, Labor and Social Law, International Law, and Legal Theory and History.
In their papers and presentations, the participants highlighted the main dilemmas, challenges, and open questions in legal theory and practice, particularly those related to legal principles in contemporary law. The submitted papers were published in the Conference proceedings.

REGIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: “PRIVATE INTERNATIONAL LAW AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS – ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES”, (November 24, 2023)

On 17 November 2023, the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, had the honour of hosting the 18th Regional Scientific Conference in the field of Private International Law, entitled “Private International Law and International Organizations – аchievements and challenges.
On this occasion, a significant milestone was commemorated — the 20th anniversary of the inaugural conference held in 2003 at our Faculty, initiated by Professor Dr. Mirko Živković. This year’s conference attracted nearly 60 participants.
The conference was held in a hybrid format, enabling the participation of attendees not only from across Europe but also from Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, and India. At the official opening, the participants were addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. Nebojša Raičević, as well as by Mr. Slobodan Šarić, representative of GIZ in Serbia.
The participants were also addressed by the esteemed Dr. Krista Jessel Holst of the Max Planck Institute in Hamburg, who reflected on the development of these conferences over the past two decades. Additionally, Professor Dr. Sanja Marjanović extended greetings on behalf of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.
Following the opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty formally presented a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Faculty of Law to Mr. Hans van Loon, former long-serving Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.

The international scientific conference “Law and Social Values” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 21 April 2023. The Conference, organized in a hybrid format, brought together over 100 domestic and foreign experts in various fields of law from Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
The international scientific conference was opened by a welcoming address by the Dean, Prof. dr. Nebojša Raičević. Then, the Conference participants were addressed by Prof. dr. Jovan Stepanović, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work and Publishing Activities at the University of Niš.
The opening addresses were followed by a plenary session, in which Prof. dr. Predrag Cvetković from the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, presented his work, while the paper of Prof. dr. Ivan Ruschev from the Faculty of Law, “St. Kliment Ohridski” University in Sofia (Bulgaria) was presented by Prof. dr. Angel Ristov from the Faculty of Law “Justinijan I”, “St. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje (North Macedonia). Subsequently, the Conference activities continued in seven parallel sessions: Constitutional and Administrative Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Economic, Financial, and Commercial Law, Labor and Social Law, International Law, and Legal Theory and History.

The international scientific conference “Systemic Agency in Emergency Situations: Experiences and Challenges” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 20 April 2022. The Conference, organized in a hybrid format, was attended by over 70 domestic and foreign experts in various fields of law from Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, and Serbia.
The Conference was opened by Prof. dr. Anđelija Tasić, the Conference co-editor, followed by a welcome address by Prof. dr. Goran Obradović, the Dean of the Faculty of Law in Niš. The opening addresses were followed by a plenary session, in which papers were presented by Prof. dr. Cristian Dumitru Miheș, Faculty of Law, University of Oradea (Romania), and Prof. dr. Mustafa Yasan, Faculty of Law, University of Democracy in Izmir (Turkey). The Conference activities continued in five parallel morning sessions and two parallel afternoon sessions.

SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,LEGAL STATUS AND PROTECTION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS, REFUGEES, ASYLUM SEEKERS AND LEGALLY INVISIBLE PERSONS“, (May 28, 2021)

The regional scientific conference “The Legal Status and Protection of Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Legally Invisible Persons” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 28 May 2023. The Conference, organized in a hybrid format, was the final event within the SEELS Network project (Forced Migrations Project), which was implemented by the the Faculty of Law in Niš in cooperation with partner law faculties in Skopje, Zenica, and Osijek.
After the opening address by Prof. dr. Goran Obradović, the Dean of the Law Faculty in Niš, and the address by the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Vladimir Cucić, the Conference activities continued in parallel sessions: Labour Law and Social Security (Session I), Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Law (Session II, subtopics – Civil Procedure Law and Criminal Law), Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Law (Session III, subtopics – Public International Law, EU Law, and Administrative Law), and Private International Law (Session IV). In each of thesese sessions, the panelists presented national reports on the legal status of forcibly displaced persons in their respective countries (Serbia, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina), which were accompanied by discussions on the presented findings.
The Conference results and the prepared national reports were published in the Guide to Good Practice, thus making them available to the interested academic and professional public.
In particular, we express our gratitude to the Conference participants and the external experts who participated in Session IV and analyzed the national reports prepared in the field of Private International Law: J.H.A. van Loon, former Secretary General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law; Prof. Fabienne Jault-Seseke, Faculté de droit et de science politique de l’Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (member of the Trans Europe Experts network); and Prof. Sabine Corneloup, Université Paris II Panthéon-Assas (member of the Trans Europe Experts network).

SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,LAW AND DIGITALIZATION”, (April 23-24, 2021)

The international scientific conference “Law and Digitalization” was held at the Faculty of Law in Niš, on 23-24 April 2021. The Conference brought together more than 70 domestic and foreign experts in various fields of law from Turkey, Bulgaria, Russia, Romania, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. The Conference was organized in a hybrid format, with full observance of epidemiological measures; thus, the participants contributed to responsible and conscientious behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Conference was opened by Prof. dr. Goran Obradović, Dean of the Law Faculty in Niš, and the Conference editor-in-chief. After the opening address, the Conference activities continued in five parallel sessions.
In their papers and presentations, the participants highlighted the main dilemmas, challenges, and open theoretical and practical issues in the circusmstances of pervasive digitalization, while providing specific recommendations and proposals for their optimal legal regulation. SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,RESPONSIBILITY IN THE LEGAL AND SOCIAL CONTEXT”, (September 18, 2020)

In the context of celebrating the 60th anniversary from its establishment, the Faculty of Law, University of Niš organized the International Scientific Conference “Responsibility in the Legal and Social Context”. This was the first conference fully organized and held in an online format due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. More than 100 presenters from the country and abroaparticipated in this online Conference, thus exercising responsible conduct in extraorinary COVID-19 pandemic ciscumstances.
The Conference was opened by Prof. dr. Goran Obradović, Dean of the Law Faculty in Niš and Conference Editor-in-Chief, and Prof. dr. Marko Krstić, Acting Director of the Center for the Promotion of Science, Belgrade. Introductory presentations in the plenary session were delivered by Prof. dr. Cristian Mihes, Dean of the Faculty of Law in Oradea (Romania), and Prof. dr. Ivana Tucak from the Faculty of Law, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek (Croatia).
The presentations and discussion that developed within 10 thematic sessions demonstrated that there are few topics in the field of law that attract such attention as responsibility, particularly considering that this legal institute has been accompanied by numerous controversial issues from its inception to the present day.
In their papers and presentations, the participants endeavoured to identify and address the main dilemmas, challenges, and open questions related to the diverse conceptual framework of responsibility in the legal and social context. The submitted papers were published in the Conference proceedings.

The international scientific conference “Law and Multidisciplinarity” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 12-13 April 2019. The Conference was attended by 140 foreign and domestic experts in the field of law from Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Croatia, and Serbia.
The Conference was opened by a welcoming address delivered by Prof. dr. Saša Knežević, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Niš. The Conference participants were also addressed by Prof. dr. Željko Mirjanić, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Banja Luka, Republika Srpska (B&H), by Prof. dr. Velimir Rakočević, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Montenegro in Podgorica, as well as by Prof. dr. Goran Marković, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of East Sarajevo, Republika Srpska (B&H).

SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE: ,,THE UNIVERSALITY OF ROMAN LAW”, (October 12-13, 2017)

The Second International Conference on Roman Law and the Roman-Law Tradition, titled “The Universality of Roman Law”, was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš, on 12-13 October 2017. The Conference gathered 70 eminent Roman law experts, scholars and professors from most parts of Europe: Italy, Spain, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia. The Conference was supported by the Italian Institute of Culture in Belgrade, whose Director, Mr. Davide Scalmati, personally attended the Conference and delivered the opening address.
The Conference opening ceremony was held on 12 October 2017, at the Faculty of Law, University of Niš. On this occasion, the participants were addressed by the following speakers:

After the successful plenary session, the Conference participants presented their papers in the field of Roman law in two thematic sessions: Public law session and Private Law session. Each of these papers represents a true treasury of knowledge and casts more light on Roman law through different approaches to Roman law, comparative analysis of Roman-law institutes with contemporary law institutes, with the aim of demonstrating the significant role of Roman law in the emergence and development of contemporary law.
In the Conference closing remarks, it was noted that the Conference was not the forum for defending Roman law or posing competiting arguments for or against Roman law. Rather, it was aimed at reminding the broader scientific community that Roman law is a lasting value, a universal category, and the foundation of contemporary law in the European area. Thus, the Second International Conference on Roman Law and the Roman-Law Tradition, was successfully concluded and closed. . held under the auspices of the Balkan Association for Roman Law, Universit of Niheld under the auspices of the Balkan Association for Roman Law,
The ceremonious reception of the Conference participants in the City Hall was organized at 7 p.m on the same day. At the reception, hosted by the Mayor and the President of the City Assembly, the Conference participants were welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Prof. dr. Nebojša Ranđelović, acting on behalf of the Mayor, and by the President of the City Assembly, Mr. Rade Rajković.
On the third day of the Conference, 14 October 2017, the Conference participants had an opportunity to visit the archaeological sites of Mediana and Felix Romuliana, both dating from the final period of the Roman Empire.

The international scientific conference “Legal Protection of Vulnerable Groups” was held at the Faculty of Law in Niš, on 18-19 May 2015. It was organized by the Legal and Social Research Center at the Law Faculty in Niš, as part of the ceremonious events marking the Faculty Day.
The Conference was attended by 63 foreign and domestic experts in various areas of law from different countries (Austria, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Russia, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, Serbia), institutions (the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Law in Hamburg, the IRZ Foundation for International Legal Cooperation in Bonn, the Hellenic Institute of International and Foreign Law from Athens) and universities (University of Salzburg, University of Sakarya in Turkey, Universities of Split and Rijeka, the University of Skopje, Universities of Banja Luka, Zenica and Tuzla, and Universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Niš.
The Conference was opened by a welcoming address delivered by Prof. dr. Milena Jovanović Zattila, Head of the Legal and Social Research Center. The Conference participants were then addressed by Prof. dr. Miroslav Lazić, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Niš.
In the plenary session, the introductory paper was presented by Prof. dr. Michael Geistlinger from the Faculty of Law, University of Salzburg (Austria). The Conference activities continued in two parallel thematic sessions: Private Law session and Public Law session.
The papers presented at the Conference were published in a special thematic collection of papers of the Faculty of Law, University of Niš.
